Northern Thailand has many attractions and sights, including the Golden Triangle border in Chiang Rai Province with its beautiful capital town of Chiang Rai. The town is a large commercial center visited by both tourists and business travelers to the region. In Chiang Rai luxury hotels can be found which provide comfortable bedrooms, excellent restaurants and convenient business services to suit all needs. Getting into Chiang Rai from international destinations is usually via connections from the local Mae Fah Luang - Chiang Rai Airport to Bangkok, which serves a number of international destinations across Europe, North America and Australasia.

There are also buses from the town's two bus stations which travel to Chiang Khong on the border with Laos and Chiang Mai, a large city in the area which has a train station offering connections to other Thai, Laos and Myanmar destinations. Once in the town there are plenty of ways to get around, including songthaews (mini buses), tuk-tuks and taxis, although the town is fairly compact and the majority of it can be explored on foot from your hotel location. There are rickshaw bicycles too which can give first time visitors a good whistle-stop tour of the town.

While spending time in the area there are some beautiful churches and temples to see which give a great insight into the ancient people and cultures of the area. One of the most famous religious icons of Thailand, the Emerald Buddha, is found in a dedicated temple in the grounds of the Royal Palace and the Wat Klong Wiang showcases some of the most exuberant Lanna styles including elephant statues and colorful guardians.

There are also a number of interesting museums to visit, including the Hill Tribe Museum and Education Center at Tanalai Road. This museum promotes a greater depth of knowledge and understanding of Thai Hill Tribes and their cultures, including displays of housing, tools and clothes and visitors can even take a guided tour into the hills to see a hill tribe village.

Also worth making time to visit are the Cultural Hall Museum on Singhaklai Road and the Oub Kham Museum on Na Khai Road, both of which house ancient artifacts and traditional local pottery and textiles typical of the Lanna style and Thai culture.

The Kok River which flows thorough the center of the town is another popular place to spend some time. The local beach on the banks of the river is a lovely place for a walk or a picnic in the summer, or visitors can catch a long tailed boat for a cruise along the beautifully scenic waters. From the river cruise visitors can stop off to visit hill tribe villages or can take an elephant ride into the countryside and forests.

Although there is plenty to see and do in the town, there are also many sights and attractions just a short distance away. Hiring a car and driver is the most convenient way to get around and with prices in the area so cheap it is highly recommended as an alternative to trying to negotiate the limited public transport or hiring a car and coping with the rough roads and poor signage.

About 18 miles outside of the town, the White Temple or Wat Rong Khun, which is found at Ban Rong Khun, is a beautiful modern temple which was built in 1998. The interior of the temple is decorated with glittering mirrors and silver leaf decorations and it has a unique gable decorated with dragons and other mythical creatures. Other day trips out could include the beautiful Royal Villas and breathtaking mountaintop views around Doi Tung or to the Golden Triangle at the borders of Myanmar, Thailand and Laos.

Chiang Rai luxury hotels are located both in the town center and outside in the stunning countryside. Hotel facilities including spa services, fitness suites and swimming pools. Hotel rooms with air conditioning and en suite bathrooms are commonplace.

Business travelers to the area will be pleased to find Chiang Rai luxury hotels almost always have facilities to make their trip hassle free. High speed internet is found in many hotel bar and lounge areas and some will also offer a connection in the guest bedrooms. Many hotels will employ staff who speak English and are able to assist visitors to plan their excursions and onward travel.
